Matt & I decided on a Weimaraner hunting dog for two reasons:
I was raised with them as a child and had an understanding of their temperaments and Matt had seen a Weimaraner as a child and loved their looks. I actually bought our first weim, CH Grayangel Kodiak II, SH, SDX, RDX, VX, for Matt as a first anniversary gift, this has been a joke between us since I had the time to train a bird dog and he did not. Kodi is so my dog it’s ridiculous!
Having been a horse person that through life changing events had to leave the horse world, it was no surprise to my family and friends, that I immersed myself into the dog world. Soon I was traveling all over while I ran Kodi in hunt tests, ratings tests and dog shows. Kodi easily picked up her hunting titles and eventually became a bench champion but that was not such an easy task! Although Kodi is very beautiful she does not possess the classic conformation look that show weims possess.
Matt & I got very lucky with Kodi. We soon found that after seeing many weims in the field and at events there are some that don’t have the exceptional field ability that she has. Kodi lives to hunt, its that simple and she is very versatile. We hunt all upland birds and she switches with ease from grouse, woodcock to pheasants, sharptail, quail and any other upland bird. She is also a natural retriever that has an exceptional ability to mark her birds. I can honestly say that we have not lost many birds over the years due to her tenacity to find downed birds. She is also a sweet girl with an exceptional temperament, loves to hunt, loves people and she is an outstanding mother.
Kodi produced three litters, all of her puppies have incredible natural ability in the field. Kodi produced 7 living puppies the first litter and out of the 7 pups, 5 obtained field titles. Kodi’s second litter, born in 2006 did very well in their events. All 6 pups obtained their Junior Hunter and two finished their Senior Hunter title. Two of our 2006 puppies did their NAVHDA, NA test and earned our first NA Prize 1′s with perfect scores of 112. Puppies from Kodi’s litters have been showcased in the photo galleries. Kodi’s last & final litter was whelped April , 2007, her last litter was sired by a Canadian male, Weatherrun Baron Axel. We are now on our third generation of Timberdoodle hunting weims as Timberdoodle Black Velvet, SH, SD, RD, NAVHDA NA 1, 112 whelped her litter in June 2009. We proudly kept Timberdoodle Crown Royal, JH, SDX, RD, NAVHDA NA 1, 112 to continue the tradition of Timberdoodle hunting Weimaraners.
Matt & I frequently guide hunts for groups and we have used many of our pups to guide even though they were under a year old. It’s quite impressive to see our pups find and handle birds as our pups do at such young ages. Many of our hunting adventures are featured in the photo galleries. Please enjoy our site and feel free to contact us if you should have any questions! We are on our third generation of hunting Weims, we only sell our puppies to hunting homes. We believe given their natural talent in the field they should be allowed the opportunity to hunt. Sincerely, Camille Rice
